Ep 19. How Dessica Transformed Her Health and Life: Epigenetics for the Win!

In the latest episode of "Everyday Epigenetics. Raw. Real. Relatable.," I had the pleasure of sitting down with Dessica to discuss our personal health journeys and the transformative impact of personalized healthcare strategies. This episode dives deep into the details of genetic testing and interpretation, emotional well-being, and lifestyle adjustments. We also discuss how thin people are thought to have no health problems, and why that it’s an incorrect assumption, as they are prone to specific issues stemming from their development in the womb.

The Role of Genetics in Health
One of the standout revelations from Dessica’s journey is how her genetic markers influenced her health. Dessica opened up about how weight gain, poor estrogen metabolite elimination were tied to her genetic makeup. Understanding these genetic factors allowed her to tailor her supplementation and hormone dosing, identifying exactly what her body needed. I emphasized the importance of personalized supplementation, noting that what works for one person might not work for another due to our unique genetic blueprint and its expression.

Adapting to New Eating Habits
A significant area of our discussion centered around eating habits. Dessica used to eat only in the evenings, capping off her day with wine and snacks before bed. Through program, my coaching program, she learned the importance of eating small meals or snacks throughout the day due to her inefficient digestive system. Transitioning to eating four to five times daily led to improved sleep and overall energy levels. Dessica even managed to give up alcohol and prescription medication, expanding her list of health victories.

Sleep: The Cornerstone of Health
Quality sleep emerged as a recurring theme in our conversation. Both Dessica and I underscored how critical sleep is to overall health and well-being. I shared my own struggles with sleep and how it affects my daily life, encouraging listeners to prioritize good sleep hygiene.

Addressing Digestive and Thyroid Issues
With DNA testing and personalized coaching, Dessica saw major improvements in her digestive issues, sleep quality, and overall well-being. She transitioned from struggling with irregular bowel movements to achieving regularity, and her thyroid health saw positive changes. These tangible improvements added to her growing list of personal victories, boosting her confidence and overall quality of life.

Embracing Imperfections and Small Wins
One of the most impactful segments of the episode was Dessica’s shift in mindset. Influenced by her grandmother, Dessica began to view slip-ups as opportunities for improvement rather than setbacks. I echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of celebrating small wins and practicing gratitude.
