When we think about love, we often picture romantic moments or cheesy greeting cards, but what if love was so much more? What if it was a powerful, physiological state that could calm your nervous system, support your immune function, and literally influence how your genes express?
In our latest episode of Everyday Epigenetics, Susan Robbins and Kate King explore the science and soul of love. Spoiler alert: it’s not about fairy tales. It’s about frequency. It’s about biology. And most importantly, it’s about choice.
From Fear to Love: The Flip Side of Survival Mode
Previously, we talked about fear and how it keeps us stuck in stress and survival. Now, we’re looking at the antidote. Love isn’t just the opposite of fear, it’s a whole different operating system.
When we’re in a state of love, self-love, relational love, or even love for a sunset or your dog, our bodies respond with calm, connection, and healing. Love can regulate your heart rate, elevate mood, reduce anxiety, and even shift your gene expression.
But here’s the catch: not everyone finds love easy to access. In fact, many of us have a complicated history with it.
The Letters from Love Practice (And Why It Works)
Kate shares a beautiful tool inspired by author Elizabeth Gilbert called Letters from Love. This journaling practice invites you to ask love a question like: “Dear Love, what would you have me know today?”
Then you write the response, as love itself. It’s a practice that rewires your inner dialogue and gently brings you into a more compassionate, high-vibe mindset.
Don’t like journaling? No problem. The episode is filled with other ideas, from movement and nature to art, music, and even spending time with your pets. Love is a felt sense, and there are so many ways to tap into it.
Why This Episode Matters
Love isn’t just a nice idea, it’s a radical act of self-care. In a world buzzing with fear, division, and burnout, choosing love is a rebellious, healing, and wildly transformative choice.
This episode will inspire you to explore what love feels like for you, in your body, in your day, and in the way you talk to yourself.
